Sides to serve with this low carb skillet recipe?
Recipe Tips
- Slice cabbage evenly – Cut into thin, uniform shapes so it cooks evenly and absorbs flavor.
- Cover the skillet with a lid – After sautéing, cover with a lid for 3-5 minutes to trap steam and help the cabbage soften. Remove the lid at the end to let any excess moisture evaporate.
- Let the vinegar cook off – After adding, let it simmer for a minute to mellow out the acidity.
Variations
- Use 2 different types of sausage for a unique flavor profile.
- Make it spicy with some chili pepper flakes added while sauteing the onions and garlic.
- Add some shredded cheddar or parmesan on top of the sausage and cabbage before serving.
Storage and meal prep tips
Refrigerator
- Store the kielbasa and veggies in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
- Microwave: Heat the fried cabbage with sausage on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring halfway through.
- Stovetop: Reheat over medium heat, adding a splash of broth to prevent drying out.
Freezer
- Freezer: Place the low carb sausage recipe in a freezer-safe container for up to 2-3 months. Let it cool completely before freezing.
- Thaw overnight in the fridge, then reheat using stovetop or microwave.
- From Frozen: Reheat in a pan on low heat with a lid, adding liquid as needed, or microwave in short bursts.
Meal Prep Tips
- Portion it out: Divide the cabbage and kielbasa into individual containers for easy meals.
- Store sauce separately: Keep liquid separate to avoid soggy veggies.
- Undercook cabbage: Leave it a bit crisp for better texture when reheating.
