Are bananas low carb?
Bananas are not low in carbs but this recipe only uses 1 medium ripe banana for 10 popsicles. So we spread that banana pretty far making these banana popsicles low carb with only 3g total carbs per popsicle.
Technically it's not sugar free but there is no added sugar and the only natural sugar in this dairy free banana popsicle recipe is from the 1 banana.
In fact, if you want to add more banana flavor you can make it with 2 bananas and each popsicle will then jump to 6g of carbs. Depending if you are strict keto, low carb, or someone with diabetes, you can modify it to suit your way of eating.
Ingredients used
This no sugar added banana popsicles recipe is a simple and super fun way to make popsicles with just a few simple ingredients. This recipe is also gluten free.
- Banana: using a real banana in this recipe for that true banana taste that we often miss out on when following a low carb, keto diet.
- Coconut Cream: with a higher fat content, giving this banana popsicle a creamy texture.
- Coconut Milk: using full fat coconut milk, we are adding more volume in order to stretch it out to 10 popsicle servings.
- Sweetener: powdered erythritol is my sweetener of choice in this recipe but you can sweeten with other low carb sweeteners like allulose, monk fruit, xylitol or stevia.
- Vanilla Extract: an optional ingredient but it does help to bring out the flavor from the banana.

Steps by step instructions
How to make sugar free banana popsicles?
STEP 1: Mash a very ripe banana in a small bowl and then add to a large glass mixing bowl. Then add the coconut cream, coconut milk, sweetener and vanilla to the mixing bowl.
STEP 2: Using a whisk mix all the ingredients for about 30 seconds until well combined and the banana is spread out throughout the mixture. You can use a mixer or throw it in a blender or food processor but I found it mixed in well as long as the banana is very ripe and mushy.
STEP 3: Pour the mixture into a glass container or cup with a spout and then pour into the popsicle molds. I used a funnel to help direct the flow of the ice cream into the molds.
STEP 4: Place the cover over the popsicle mold and insert the popsicle sticks into the mold. Freeze for at least 4 hours (or overnight).
STEP 5: remove popsicles by wiggling them out of the molds. I rubbed them with my hands to warm them up and loosen them a bit. Wiggling side to side and around will get them out. I like to let my popsicle sit for about 5 minutes out of the freezer before consuming it.
Recipe tips
Top Tip: keep very ripe peeled bananas in the freezer wrapped in parchment paper in a freezer bag, and thaw when ready to make banana popsicles. By doing this, I find when they thaw, they are almost creamy in consistency and make it easier to whisk into the mixture.
Tip: shake the cans of coconut cream and full fat coconut milk very well before opening as they may separate if sitting too long.
- Set in the freezer: Depending on how cold you keep your freezer the no sugar added banana pops might be ready in 4 hours. They should be solid before removing from the popsicle mold, if not keep them in the freezer until solid.
- Serving: these banana popsicles are great on their own, I enjoy them as an after dinner treat along side a cup of coffee.
- Storage: store in the freezer for up to 1 week.
Sugar free banana popsicle variations
These popsicles are delicious and creamy as they are. If you want to change them up a bit, here are some tips and variations.
- Chocolate - if you like the combination of chocolate and banana, add some cocoa powder to the mixture before pouring it into the molds for a banana chocolate popsicle. Alternatively, you can add some sugar free chocolate chips to the mixture.
- Peanut Butter - some people enjoy peanut butter and banana, add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter or any nut butter to the mixture before pouring it into the popsicle molds. The added fat will also make the popsicles creamier.
- Sweetener - if you are not too concerned about adding a few more carbs you can use a touch of maple syrup or honey instead.
- More Banana Flavor - want more banana flavor without adding more bananas, use a couple of drops of banana extract to increase the intensity of the banana flavor.
