cilantro lime crema in a bowl next to a lime

This Cilantro Lime Crema uses simple ingredients and full of all the flavour. If you love the cilantro and lime combination this crema is for you. Made with fresh cilantro and lime, this recipe is a great option for diabetics or people following a low carb and keto lifestyle.

I use this cilantro lime crema with my Air Fryer Artichokes and my Cilantro Lime Chicken Wings. Perfect sauce for just about anything in my opinion.

    🥘 Ingredient notes

The cilantro lime crema recipe uses fresh cilantro leaves, lime juice, garlic, sour cream and mayonnaise. Blend all ingredients together for a creamy tangy sauce on just about anything.

    • Cilantro: this green leafy herb has a warm, spicy and nutty flavour that gives this crema a special tangy citrus flavour.
    • Lime: adding the tart and acidity with a little sweetness goes a long way
    • Garlic: my favourite ingredient of all time. Even though we are using fresh garlic the cilantro and lime help mellow it out.
    • Mayonnaise: smooth, creamy and slightly tart
    • Sour Cream: tangy and tart with a rich creaminess

    💭 Frequently asked questions

What is the traditional crema made with?

Typically it's made with heavy cream, buttermilk and lime.

    How thick should it be?

Crema is used more as a dollop over food such as tacos, nachos or burritos so it needs to be thick enough to dollop. However, some prefer it a little looser so they can drizzle over salads or hearty burrito or taco bowls.

    What is crema?

Crema is often used to balance out spicy flavours like chipotle and is close to a crème fraîche but thinner.
